The full recap

How 2026 actually went.

01

The 2026 season is still being played, so this recap cannot have a final ending yet. The Mets entered with a remade roster built around Lindor and Soto but have spent much of the summer trying to recover from an early hole. Injuries, uneven pitching, and long stretches without consistent run prevention have kept the club behind the main National League race.

02

There have still been reasons to watch. Young players such as Brett Baty have taken on larger roles, while the established stars continue trying to pull the offense forward. The difficult record has changed the mood from championship expectations to questions about which parts of the roster should remain central to the next attempt.

03

Any judgment written now must stay temporary. September games can still change individual stories, and the final record will determine how sharp the failure feels. For now, 2026 belongs in the Time Machine as an unfinished chapter—a reminder that history pages about the present need to leave room for the next pitch.

This chapter is being written in real time, and right now it is a fight to find a better ending.

The moment everybody remembers

Where it fits

Steve Cohen and Lindor

Cohen brought the spending, Lindor became the face, Díaz brought the trumpet, and the expectations got much louder. The next championship is still the part nobody has solved.

Better or worse?

The schedule was not a normal full season, so the 69–80 record should be read in that context.

Then came...

The next chapter has not happened yet. This is the newest season in the Time Machine.
